Alfred's New Ramblings

P1 to E71

Just sidegraded from Sony Ericsson P1 to Nokia E71. Both are very similar under the hood, eg Symbian based. In fact both have identical operating system. The actual implementation is a world of difference.

The Nokia E71 has the Contact Search, it searches for possible matches as you type the name.

Other niceties include multiple Time Zone tracking and multiple alarms. The space key is not mapped to 0 which makes numerical data input with spaces a breeze.

The applications requiring network access eg Mail for Exchange the network connection is fixed.  On the P1 can be pointed to a group so that the best connection is made. This can only be fixed by using a third party connection manager.

The downside is small buttons, which makes an illegal activity really difficult.  Call and Hangup key are down two rows from the P1, causing me to hit Selection keys.   When I want to press the Selection keys I endup pressing the shortcut keys.  Note the auto screen lock only works at the home page.  I originally thought it was a mistake, turns out this enables you to control the music player.

Now if I can get the LED flash to work as a torchlight using gapata-d.  The back lit does work as a torch but the light is diffused.
