Alfred's New Ramblings

UCWeb

This is a follow on report from the inital review  of UCWeb Browser.  After extensive testing, I am please to report that I am extremely satisfied with this application.  A typical web page is resized and optimized for my handphone, E71 screen.

There is no horizontal scrolling or mini map feature of Opera Mini.  The entire web page is now a very long page on the UCWeb Browser.  For example, the search box on Wikipedia’s home page is at the bottom of the page.  It helps alot if you use the shortcut key of  “d” to jump to the home/end of the page.

Below is the Bookmarks Manager screenshot.  It is possible to export the bookmarks and the html links can be copied and paste to other applications eg OpenOffice.

Below is an example of an optimized banner.  On a computer with a full size display, the banner is some 8 inches long.  Here UCWeb taking advantage of its proxied browsing has resized the banner width to the width of my E71.  Easy to use and easy on the wallet.

The home page of the blog is fully displayed, with the 3 columns collapsed into 1 very long column.

A real must have application.  The download traffic is in the order of low KB instead of x 100KBs.  Enabling me to finish each billing month with lots of bandwidth leftover.

The first look is available here.
