Alfred's New Ramblings

Window placement in large monitors.

I was trying to manage the location of several application windows, to keep all in the foreground.

The obvious way is to manually resize each window to fit where I want on the screen. For 2 application windows, it is the standard Windows key + left or right error. Beyond that it gets laborious. If you hit the maximized icon, all gets screwed up. There has to be a better method.

In Windows 11, there is Snap layouts. There are several fixed templates to choose from. Mouse over the Maximize icon in the current window or use Windows + Z key.

Enter Microsoft PowerToys. Among other things it does is FancyZones. You can use the suggested templates or create your own. Home a maximized window in the zone, without taking over the entire screen. Now I can have multiple application windows on a screen and not worry about alignment. If you share an application during a call, there is no juggling to make it stay in the foreground.
