Date, bookmark and cross-references

Are you sick of entering a date several times in a Microsoft Word document? Twice is once too many. You can automate and error-proof this by bookmarks and cross-reference.

  1. Insert a bookmark by selecting the desired date and click Insert>Links>Bookmarks. Give it a name.
  2. In another location where you want the same date, insert a cross-reference to the bookmark, click Insert>Links>Cross reference.
  3. Pick the bookmark. UNCHECK “Insert as Hyperlink”. Click OK.

Insert as many cross-references to the bookmark as desired. For sanity’s sake, the bookmark should be the very first date field.

Update that date, and sync up the rest using the Print Preview.
