I started resumed JB weekend trips after a long gap.
In the first trip, the primary objective is to test my phone eSIM capability before going a trip to South Korea. The 5ber eSIM worked flawlessly. The first 3 minutes at the other end of the causeway was a nail biting excitement as the phone connected to HK Telecom and got only H+. Thereafter it switched to Celcom and I got 4G.
Other side quests is to see how much has changed since my last visit. There were plenty of changes. The CIQ complexes in JB and Woodlands have greatly expanded. No more get off the bus walk over to immigration and jump back, hopefully on the same bus. To cater for the large crowds. there is massive hair pin turns and autogates. What was a car park became JB City Square mall. We went cafe hopping in Jalan Dhoby area and later walked around AEON mall. We spend more time looking and drinking lattes than shopping.

On the second trip, we went to check out the much talked about Mount Austin area to visit a cat cafe, but it was full. The Austin Heights Water & Adventure park slides looked deadly with mould. On the home leg, we dropped by The Mall, Mid Valley Southkey. Huge place, with lots of shops, strangely with only 1 bakery.

The third trip, we managed to visit the cat cafe with a 15 minute wait, at another cafe!! This time around, I stocked up on different types of crunchy peanut butter at Southkey mall.
The fourth trip, now in 2025, I managed to get my son to come along for his first trip to Malaysia. I got the kids to test out their iPhones’ build in eSIM capability. This was just after the New Year, the Southkey mall has not started on the Lunar New Year theme, but we managed to buy some clothes.
I got the eSIMs plans from here.
