Search Everything

Everything from voidtools is a fantastic search tool. You can install it as an app or use it as a standalone program with limitations.

Head to head with Windows Search, looking for filenames, Everything wins hands down. It consistently returned results before the Windows hourglass stopped spinning.

Both apps work fine with filenames. Searching the contents of files is another issue. I have Sharepoint files synced with Onedrive. Using the Everything app to search for the content in files would trigger files to be downloaded and indexed. It is possible to configure Everything to exclude searching OneDrive files. Unfortunately, that is where the bulk of of searches are. So I just have to live with filename searches.

Windows Search just silently turned my query into a filename search. Sigh.
